Sunday service

This is the first memorable dream I've had in a while.

It started with me being ushered into a church (pardon the pun) with a group of people that included my girlfriend.  We walked through the main door and had to pass through two rooms to get into the church hall proper.

The church itself was a small building.  The hall hosted rows of wooden seats that faced a stage from where the ceremonies were conducted.  There was a small table and windows to the right of the stage.

At some point, I was arguing with the preacher about something in his sermon.  I basically pointed out that what he was saying contradicted another passage in the bible, proving it to be unreliable.  I ended up getting into an argument with him and someone else in the congregation.  Shortly after, an uncomfortable silence descended upon the congregation.  At first, I thought it was because of what I'd said, but then people started saying they felt a strange presence in the building and wanted to leave.

The whole thing seemed silly to me at first, so I laughed it off.  I remember saying "Do you think there's a crazed psycho killer in the building or something?".  I then pointed to a bald guy in his late 50s with large eyes in sunken, ringed sockets and said: "Maybe it's you, you look pretty freaky".  I then said I was joking.  I was basically trying to lighten the mood, but my jocularity had no effect.

I started to feel the unease myself, at which point I stood up and said I was leaving.  I grabbed my coat and made for the door, at which point everybody decided to follow me.  As we got to the door which leads to the rooms that preceded the main hall, everyone suddenly became confused as to the best way to leave.  There was also some concern as the doors could close behind you once walked through, so going through the wrong door would keep us trapped with whatever was in the building.

I tried to take the lead and get people out, but nobody was listening to me, so I decided to make a run for it myself.  I woke up just as I bolted out of the main door and back outside.
